Lesson: Don’t get hung up on the details. I was so busy focusing on all products on the shelves I totally lost sight of the scale of the two figures, they look like children. Having to redraw this page was no picnic.
I finally got one of those fancy high-qual moleskine sketchbooks that I keep hearing about everywhere. They were crazy expensive, so I got a small one- it’s only about as big as my hand. Surprisingly, this size of paper is really nice for me to work on. When I get big sketchbooks I sometimes want to rush through the drawings, just so I can start on a fresh sheet. But with this size it doesn’t take as long to fill the page.
I’ve mostly been experimenting with inking stuff. I have no idea who these people are. Some of them are actual characters, but most are random doodles. I’m just messin around.
Have you seen Maria Frantz’s work? She’s one of my students from last summer’s OCAC comics program, and to be quite honest, really, really good. Pay attention to her now, because she’s only getting started and she’s gonna be knocking people’s socks off for a long, long time.
